Beyond the board shorts Men’s costumes evolve for C2K13

Metro has been noticing a new trend in male costumes for 2013. Instead of looking like an afterthought, costumes for men seem to become the focus for designers from nearly all of the bands we have seen so far. Now, instead of merely a board shorts with the complementary waistband and feet and arm accessories, men’s costumes are sporting breastplates, wings, sarongs, elaborate headpieces and extra fabric. While some men are adamant that they won’t be playing in anything beyond a plain shorts, others, surprisingly, have expressed relief that more thought has been given to men’s designs. We asked our Facebook fans for their feedback on next year’s Carnival trend and to our surprise many of them supported it.

I'll prefer a bit more costume, used to feel a bit neglected with just those pants and headpieces. LOL. It's nice to see that they are finally taking the men into consideration. Although this more than likely is going to lead to an increase in the prices of the men's costumes.

Those of us that grew up playing mas actually do care about the costume. Personally I played individual, sailor mas and even devil mas....so when it comes to adult mas with my hard earned dollar$, I want it all..big head piece, standard, chest plate etc etc ....if all I am getting is a pants and bib with gold trim , then the costume should not cost more than 500TT....my 2 cents

I want a costume that reflects the price I'm paying and doesn't look like something thrown together to match the base colour of a female costume.

Wings are fine...I just want to see EFFORT in design if I'm gonna be paying over a thousand dollars (over two thousand more likely). Island People was the last band I saw put real thought into the male costumes the year they did the animal theme. Personally, I probably would guard the wings on Monday and mount ‘em on my wall afterward. Or even order extra wings (I like souvenirs).
