Whitney Houston’s death sent shockwaves around the world on Saturday night, particularly for those who grew up to her music and those whose musical careers were influenced by her. Many celebs took to Twitter to express their shock, disbelief and grief at her passing, among them Destra Garcia, who just weeks ago performed some Houston classics at the Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival.

“My heart is breaking right now. Can't stop crying. My idol Whitney is gone. Oh my god! No.....somebody tell me its not true...please,” she tweeted before performing at three fetes including Rama and Chutney Soca Monarch finals. Afterwards she tweeted, “ Well I mash up all my fetes tonight....I think I'm gonna sit quietly now and grieve my Whitney....R.I.P. Gone Too Soon.” Comedienne Rachel Price was also torn up over the news of Houston’s passing at the age of 48.

“Whitney's voice was one of the most recognisable sounds to my spirit. When I felt as the end for me Whitney's blessing renewed my beginning,” she tweeted.
Contacted for comment on his feelings about the singer’s death, reigning Soca Monarch king, Machel Montano said it’s very sad. “We must remember that no matter how great the person, everyone may find themselves on the deep end at times. It’s up to those around us to keep us strong. I’m a huge Whitney fan, she brought the passion and will remain in history for that and the great songs through which she brought it,” he told Metro.

Shurwayne Winchester said while the passing of anyone in entertainment is sad his thoughts went out to her family. ”I can’t imagine what they’re feeling, it’s very sad,” he said. Here are some star responses to Whitney Houston’s death:
