My how time flies. Can you believe that it’s already a year that Metro Magazine has been out? I guess that means we’ve been having such a good time that we didn’t even notice the time flying. It’s been hard work but we thoroughly enjoyed meeting and getting to know some of the biggest personalities in entertainment and fashion and providing a space for young Trinidadians and Tobagonians to showcase their talents and creativity.
When Metro was conceptualised, we wanted to provide light but informative reading material to the 18-30 age group that took public transportation. Based on the concept of the Metro newspapers that you pick up in London, Canada and Miami, we wanted to tap into the energy of our Caribbean metropolis (where the name Metro is derived) and produce a paper that is trendy, happening, fun, relevant, interesting, on the pulse and, most of all, different to anything else that was out there.
Based on the responses from our readers, especially our growing and very interactive Facebook fans, it seems that we have succeeded in our mission. Though we are primarily distributed at the transit hubs when we are published every fortnight, we have had requests from a number of retail outlets to distribute Metro and we can now be found in many places throughout the country.
We have also set a standard where our cover and centrespread photography is concerned and the type of stories we highlight. Our last issue featuring the Soca Wives certainly struck a chord and we intend to continue pushing the envelope and finding new stories and angles that will continue to attract and maintain a loyal following.
The Metro team would like to thank everyone who has contributed to our success over the last year, especially our readers, hardworking graphic designers, writers and our intrepid photographer David Wears. Looking forward to another fun year. Have a safe and enjoyable Carnival.
