The International Soca Awards will be heading to the home of the stars. Come June 29th, the event, which is in its tenth year, would be held at the Hollywood Hilton in Los Angeles, California. The awards will honour Caribbean singers and songwriters in 30 categories as well as honour special awardees such as Calypso Rose, Black Stalin, Rikki Jai, Ellie Mannette and Brian McFarlane.
This was revealed at a press conference on Wednesday at Woodford Café, Movie Towne. Colin Jackman, ISA founder, Keenan Munro, General Operations/Project Manager, Keron Adams, head of Regularz Entertainment Inc, and Joel Morris, Head, Programming of SLAM 100.5 FM were at the head table. Adams said his organisation, which is the only one representing soca in LA, would hold the very first Trini style Carnival on the Hollywood Boulevard the weekend of the Soca Awards.
From June 28 to 30, they will stage the first annual Los Angeles Culture Festival, which would include the Parade of the Bands and an after party. Adam said 30 bands from Miami, San Francisco and Europe would be part of the parade. In his address, Morris, best known as Signal to Noise, affirmed his SLAM’s support for the second consecutive year and appealed to local businesses to invest in this historic event.
